BIOS of Fund Managers
Steven Clark, Director, Information Technology Incubator
Mr. Clark has 25 years of professional experience in the information
technology industry. He was a founding executive at a startup
that evolved into a $30 million software spinout of Battelle.
He has extensive experience in building sales teams, marketing
plans, business partnerships and international distribution channels.
He has been integral in the planning and execution of business
strategies involving the reengineering and positioning of information
technology companies. He is currently heading up the IT incubator
activity at the Business Technology Center. This activity, funded
by Ohio's IT Alliance, is charted to facilitate early stage IT
commercialization in Ohio.
Richard P. Focht, Director, BTC Capital Access Office
Mr. Focht has over 25 years experience providing financing consulting
for middle market and technology based businesses. His experiences
range from the Director of a state agency responsible for multi-million
dollar direct loan and loan guarantee programs to identifying
and qualifying diverse investment opportunities for a venture
capital partnership. His responsibilities at the venture firm
included negotiating, closing, monitoring, and exiting from investments.
Direct investment experience includes specialty retailing, manufacturing,
biotechnology, medical products, and computer hardware and software
firms ranging from early-stage to leveraged buy-outs.
Mr. Focht's consulting assignments have included: raising private
equity for technology firms; providing due diligence for private
investors; reviewing the operations of local nonprofit corporations;
and the establishment of four regional nonprofit organizations
providing access to capital for manufacturing firms and technology
companies. He currently assists the companies at the BTC in commercialization
activities and developing additional ties to the venture capital
industry.
John F. Lewis Jr., Regional Director OMERIS
Mr. Lewis is a licensed attorney with more than 15 years international
experience specializing in business development, emerging market
startups, venture capital funding, global strategic planning and
sales channel implementation. He co-founded 889 Global Solutions
Ltd., a successful China focused venture, where he consulted with
businesses on China sales, sourcing and outsourced manufacturing
strategies as well as working with emerging technology companies
as a portable executive. Prior to that, Mr. Lewis managed the
China, Korea, Hong Kong and Macau offices for Perkin Elmer Inc,
a $1.7B instrument and optical component technology conglomerate.
Mr. Lewis opened and managed a venture capital office, for a
group of angel investors based in Kingston, Jamaica, completing
investments in Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Dominican Republic.
As the current Regional Director of the Edison BioTechnology Center,
Mr. Lewis leads the effort to build and grow life science and
bioscience companies throughout Ohio.
Craig R. Stickel, Managing Director, Scitech/TCC
Mr. Stickel is a recognized leader in applying various methodologies
for market assessment and long term strategic planning with focus
on customer value. He has over 25 years experience creating and
executing product and service business development that match
market needs. Prior to becoming involved with startup technology
business development he held numerous leadership positions in
business development, marketing, manufacturing and engineering
for Mettler-Toledo, local publicly traded technology company that
is the global leader in its markets.
Mr. Stickel is currently the Managing Director at Scitech and
the Technology Commercialization Company, where he is engaged
in technology startup business development. He has been responsible
for structuring loan agreements that convert to equity for several
startups. As a member of the Board of Directors of two local technology
startup companies, he active raising venture capital for these
firms while advising several other TCC portfolio companies.
